Arcadia from REISINGER on Vimeo.

"Arcadia (2021) is a slow-paced digitally animated short film showcasing the mesmerizing landscapes and objects that have become synonymous with the creative work of Andrés Reisinger. The results of this dreamlike composition are aesthetically enthralling, both from a perceptual or an intellectual perspective. Minted as an NFT, they were auctioned at Christie’s and acquired by a discerning collector for a record-breaking price. Transmitted over the internet, they can be viewed and enjoyed by countless additional spectators. But arguably, the most remarkable aspect of Arcadia as a work of art, has to do with the underlying means and processes that made its production possible. Arcadia is an unprecedented poetic experiment in more ways than one. At first glance, it might appear to be a fascinating work of multidisciplinary narrative poetry: Reisinger’s moving images, narrated by the bestselling verse-maker and lyricist Arch Hades, and accompanied by a soundtrack created by RAC (a Grammy award-winning musician and record producer), are undoubtedly poetic in the usual sense of the word.
Upon more careful consideration, however, and according to a broader understanding of the term, Arcadia might reveal itself to be a “poetic” masterpiece not only in as much as
it is an achievement pertaining to poetry, but also because it constitutes a breakthrough when it comes to the production of artworks in general: that being precisely the deeper sense of the ancient Greek adjective “poietikos” (ποιητικός), productive or creative. Digital media alone, operating in conjunction with a variety of novel machine-readable data formats, could have allowed Reisinger to enlist for this ambitious project the collaboration of his fellow artists, and to seamlessly intertwine their output with his computer-generated images to produce an harmonious and cohesive whole. This backstage must be taken into consideration for a proper understanding of the entire artwork. Without it, the irony of images, sounds and writings represented by multiple series of digits, being used in order to portray the existential consequences of our relationship to digital electronic devices, cannot be fully appreciated.
